CONTRACTORS · MID-TO-LARGE ONLY

GET ON THE LIST. STAY ON THE LIST.

For commercial and industrial contractors with a preconstruction function and a prequalification obligation. The job is not enquiry volume — it is being verifiable at the moment someone decides whether to invite you to tender.

WHO THIS IS FOR

Commercial and industrial contractors — general contractors, civil and concrete, demolition, mechanical and electrical, site services — with a preconstruction or estimating function, a prequalification obligation, and more than one person involved in choosing a vendor. If you carry COR, sit in ISNetworld or Avetta, hold a surety facility, and answer requests for a capability statement, this page is written for you.

WHO THIS IS NOT FOR

This page is not for small or owner-operator contractors, and we say so rather than letting you find out after a call. A one-truck residential contractor is a genuinely different business with genuinely different marketing, and we would be the wrong firm for it. If you run crews, dispatch and same-day service, the field operations page is the one that fits. If your revenue arrives through a bid list, prequalification and invited tender, stay here.

WHAT ACTUALLY BREAKS

THE PROBLEMS WORTH PAYING TO FIX.

01

You are not on the invitation list, and the web is the reason

A developer's project manager builds a bid list by asking two colleagues and then searching for a trade and a city. If your firm surfaces as a directory stub and a fourteen-year-old social page, you are not on the list and you will never know you were considered. The fix is not leads. It is being a legible, verifiable entity in the places a bid list gets assembled: consistent company entity data, a projects surface organised by sector and delivery method, and bonding capacity, certifications and safety statistics stated where a stranger can find them in ten seconds.

02

The prequalification package is rebuilt from scratch every time

Your proposal coordinator maintains the company profile, the safety statistics, the insurance certificates, the bonding letter, the key-personnel resumes and the project list across six Word files at six different dates. Then ISNetworld asks for it again in a different format. A project-and-capability architecture on the site — structured, dated, one source of truth — turns a two-day scramble into a link. That is an operational saving the coordinator feels every month, which is why the coordinator becomes the internal champion for the whole engagement.

03

Nobody can find your project sheets, including you

Twenty years of completed work exists as photos on somebody's phone and a folder on the server. There is no page for a 20,000 square foot cold-storage tilt-up, design-build, Nisku, 2023 — so that experience is invisible to the owner searching for exactly that. Structured project records carrying sector, delivery method, contract value band, square footage, duration, self-perform scope and client type are simultaneously the best sales asset the company has and the highest-value search surface on the site, because they match long, specific, low-competition queries.

04

Recruiting is a revenue constraint and the careers page is a mailto link

In Alberta the binding constraint on a growing contractor is usually superintendents and journeymen, not backlog. Every hour a project manager spends recruiting is an hour not spent on margin. A careers surface stating pay bands, ticket requirements, rotation and camp details, safety record and benefits — and findable when a journeyman searches — is a direct operational deliverable rather than a nice-to-have.

05

AI assistants are part of the shortlist now, and they cannot read you

A project manager asking an assistant which Edmonton contractors self-perform concrete on industrial work and hold COR gets an answer assembled from whatever is machine-readable. A site built as an image slider with the capability statement inside a linked PDF is invisible to that process. The AEO pass exists to make the capability statement itself — sectors, delivery methods, geographic reach, bonding, certifications — exist as text an assistant can quote.

WORKED SCENARIO

WHAT THE ENGAGEMENT LOOKS LIKE.

Illustrative and hypothetical. This is not a client, and nothing below describes any real engagement or any real result. It exists to show the shape of the work.

THE BUSINESS

An Edmonton-area civil and concrete contractor, roughly 120 employees, self-performing formwork and flatwork, working mostly ICI, carrying COR and registered in ISNetworld. Backlog is healthy but concentrated with two general contractors, and the president wants onto more bid lists before the next cycle.

WHAT THE BASELINE WOULD FIND

The site is eight pages built in 2016. The projects page is a lightbox of forty untitled photos. The capability statement lives in a PDF linked from the footer. The COR certificate shown expired two audit cycles ago. The careers page is a mailto link. Nothing states bonding capacity, self-perform scopes or the sectors worked, and with no structured data the company resolves in search as an ambiguous name shared with an unrelated firm in another province.

WHAT THE ENGAGEMENT WOULD DO

Rebuild as a capability-first site: a structured project archive with one record per project carrying sector, delivery method, value band, square footage, duration and self-perform scope; a qualifications surface holding current certificates with issue and expiry dates, WCB clearance status, insurance limits and bonding capacity, each with an owner and a review date; a careers surface written for journeymen; and a change log so the proposal coordinator can see what changed and when. The SEO pass makes each project record independently indexable and internally linked by sector. The AEO pass states the capability statement as text, publishes llms.txt, fixes the entity ambiguity in schema, and writes an answers corpus around the questions a bid-list assembler asks.

HOW IT WOULD BE MEASURED

Baseline capture before launch: current impressions and clicks by query family from Search Console, current assistant responses to a fixed set of twenty buyer-intent prompts, and the current time it takes the proposal coordinator to assemble a prequalification package. Re-measured against the same baseline afterwards. Typical movement window is 14 to 90 days. No result is promised.

STRAIGHT ANSWER

WHAT WE CLAIM, AND WHAT WE DO NOT.

Clients typically see movement in 14 to 90 days, measured against a baseline we capture before the work starts. This is a typical-results claim, not a guarantee.

We do not offer performance guarantees, we do not promise a specific ranking or a specific number of leads, and there is no “we keep going until it works” clause. What we do instead is measure: a baseline is captured before the work starts, and the same measurements are re-run afterwards, so the change is something you can check rather than something we assert.

FAQ

CONTRACTORS — QUESTIONS.

What should a commercial contractor's website actually contain?

+

A commercial contractor's website has four jobs: prove capability, survive prequalification, support recruiting, and be readable by machines. In practice that means structured project records (sector, delivery method, contract value band, square footage, self-perform scope, completion date), a stated bonding capacity and surety relationship, current certifications with issue dates — COR, CSA, trade tickets, ISNetworld status — a key-personnel section with real experience, and a careers surface with ticket requirements and rotation details. Marketing copy is the least important element on the page.

Does SEO matter for a contractor that wins most work through invited tenders?

+

Yes, but not for the reason most agencies give. The value is not inbound enquiry volume; it is being found and verified when someone is assembling a bid list or checking you out after your name came up. A project manager who already has your name still searches it, and what they find determines whether you stay on the list. Search work for this buyer is about being legible and verifiable, not about capturing demand.

Do you work with small or owner-operator contractors?

+

No. This page is for mid-to-large commercial and industrial contractors — organisations with a preconstruction function, a prequalification obligation, and more than one person involved in choosing a vendor. A one-truck residential contractor is a genuinely different business with genuinely different marketing, and we would be the wrong firm for it. Field-services businesses with crews and dispatch are better served by our field operations page.

How do you handle project photos and client confidentiality?

+

Every project record goes through a client-approval step before publication, and projects under NDA are published in de-identified form — sector, scope, delivery method and value band without the client name — or not at all. We ask for written sign-off on the project sheet rather than assuming site photos are publishable. This is the single most common way a contractor's marketing creates a problem, and it is avoidable with one extra step.

Can you publish our safety statistics?

+

Yes, and it is usually worth doing — but they are published as dated figures tied to a stated source, never as a standing claim. TRIF and lost-time figures are published with the period they cover and the certifying body, for example a COR certificate with its issue and expiry dates, so the page is accurate on the day it is read and correctable when the audit cycle turns. Undated safety claims age into liabilities.

What does an engagement cost, and is there an ongoing fee?

+

Website builds are scoped to your business and paid upfront against a scope agreed before work begins; you own the result outright and there is no ongoing licence or hosting lock-in. The one-time SEO engineering pass and the one-time AEO / AI-visibility pass are each scoped to you and fixed in writing before work starts. The only recurring product we sell is AI visibility tracking, billed monthly with a three-month minimum, and it is optional.

How long before we see any change?

+

Clients typically see movement within 14 to 90 days, measured against a baseline we capture before the work starts. That is a typical-results statement, not a guarantee — we do not promise rankings, bid invitations or enquiry volumes. The point of the baseline is that the change is measured rather than asserted.

Who actually does the work?

+

The people who scope the engagement build it. There is no account-manager layer between you and the person writing the schema or the project architecture, and no offshore subcontracting of the build. For a procurement-aware buyer that matters more than it sounds: the person who answers your change request is the person who knows what the change touches.
